High Hedge Notice
City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) has issued a High Hedge Notice relating to the three Leylandii trees along the Grosvenor Crescent side of the garden.
Following a survey, CEC has required the trees to be reduced to a height of no more than 13 metres. The notice aims to address their impact on neighbouring properties and “to prevent an unacceptable impact on the reasonable enjoyment of the affected property”.
We recognise that these trees have a long history in the garden and that proprietors hold differing views about them. Our responsibility is to find the best way forward for the garden as a whole, while complying with the Council’s requirements. We are legally obliged to act. Leaving these trees as they are today is not an option.

What's Growing
As the autumn months arrive, we’ll start to see the garden put on one of its most beautiful displays.
Through October, the trees will gradually turn to wonderful shades of gold, amber, russet and red, creating a real autumnal spectacle.
Alongside this seasonal colour, our coniferous trees and holly bushes provide plenty of rich evergreen throughout the garden, ensuring there is still colour and interest as the days grow shorter.
As winter approaches, we’ll naturally begin to scale back some of the garden activity and allow things to settle into their winter rhythm. But we hope everyone will agree that the gardens are looking so much better than they did at this time last year.

Your Views
There have been two recent resident-organised events that received lots of plaudits over the summer months.
First, we had the Private Gardens Open Day, when several proprietors kindly opened their own gardens and invited neighbours in to have a look around. A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such a lovely afternoon.
We also had the Poetry and Pimm’s event, organised by Janet, which was very well received and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.
It’s wonderful to see the garden being used and enjoyed for community events. After all, they are "pleasure grounds" and it’s rather lovely to see them providing some pleasure!
